Clinical Study of Air in the Biliary Passage

Abstract
|
|
|
Clinical study was made on a series of 6 cases of air in biliary passage from Jan. 1962 to end of Aug. 1967 at the department of Surgery of Catholic Medical Center.
The results were as follow;
1) It is an interesting fact that in these 6 cases, all were male, and average age was 43 year old.
2) The cmmon complaints were colic pain : 6 cases, jaundice : 5 cases, and chillness. & fever: 3 cases.
3) Air in ther biliary passage was caused by incompetent sphincter of Oddi in 4 cases and spontaneous internal biliary fistula in 2 cases.
4) Concomitant diseases were liver abscess : 2 cases, ascaris in common bile duct : 2 cases and typhoid fever: 1 case.
5) Abnorma! laboratory findings were leucocytosis and increased alkalaine phosphatase & serum bilirubin(Table 1) in most of cases.
